When we founded Liebenberg & Associates in 2009, we focused on what security consultancies typically do: operational planning, technical design, tactical solutions, etc. We were, and still are, good at these things. But we kept seeing the same pattern - clients investing heavily in systems and measures without first establishing clear strategic direction. The result - money spent, risks often not appropriately addressed, and unclear outcomes.
Over time we evolved into a consultancy that places strategic thinking first, answering the fundamental strategic questions: What outcomes does security need to enable? How should resources be allocated? How can security strengthen competitive position rather than just consume budget?
We continue to provide operational guidance and technical support services, but the main difference is that today, we encourage organisations and communities to appreciate that effective security requires strategy first, everything else second.
We are seasoned consultants who approach every project with directness, rigour, and focus. We challenge assumptions, pushing back on ideas that don't align with your risks or constraints, and providing honest assessments even when they're uncomfortable. We don't soften difficult truths or defer to consensus when the evidence points elsewhere. Expect candid advice, practical solutions, and a team that prioritises outcomes over optics.
Our independence is fundamental to how we work. We have no product partnerships, vendor relationships, or referral arrangements. Our recommendations are shaped entirely by your security needs and business objectives - not by commercial incentives or industry relationships that could compromise our advice.
Danie Liebenberg, our founder and principal, brings almost four decades of experience to every engagement.
His career spans investigative policing, public safety and emergency response, technology integration, corporate and industrial security, business management, and strategic security consulting across Southern Africa.
This breadth of experience provides rare perspective on how crime evolves, what makes security effective, and where organisations are most exposed. Danie's core insight is that clients don't buy cameras or guards - they buy outcomes: business continuity, resilience, and confident risk governance. This understanding inspired the founding of Liebenberg & Associates in 2009 as an independent consultancy focused on strategic guidance and results that matter.

Engagements are led by Danie alongside specialist consultants whose expertise grounds strategic decisions in operational reality and guides implementation.
